Field Notes - This old sign remembered days when traffic on US Highways 98/27/19 was heavy and there were many small, family owned motels welcoming tourists as they travelled south toward Tampa and beyond. These were days long before the Interstate system made travel more efficient and far less interesting.  There are still a few of those family owned inns on this highway but nothing like back in the 40's, 50's, and 60's.  Sadly, this sign no longer stands watch over the highway. The last time I passed by the location in December of 2018 it was down, perhaps taken down by Hurricane Michael or maybe just old age, I don't know which.  Either way, it's sad to see these remnants of old Florida slowly disappear.
